Unit Five: AT A RESTAURANT
Many people like to eat large meals at restaurants, not only in China but in foreign countries too. Do you know how to order food and how to communicate with the waiter (or waitress) at a restaurant? This unit can help you learn many useful expressions at a restaurant.
In "Face to Face", once you finish all the samples and tasks, you will have learned how to order food in English at a restaurant. These expressions are very useful, and you can practice dialogues in different ways so you can use diverse sentence patterns in similar situations. Please practice them again and again so that you can express yourself in English fluently.
In "Being All Ears", practice listening and comprehension of two dialogues about ordering food at a restaurant and a passage that will show you some American customs when they eat out. Listen carefully and you can learn much from all the tasks designed for you in this section.
In "Maintaining a Sharp Eye", you will be reading two passages "Toledo: A Problem of Menus" and "Toast at a Wedding". The former passage is very interesting and will give you some ideas about the food in Toledo; while the latter can teach you how to make a toast at a wedding.
In "Trying Your Hand", this section will provide you with some samples that you will have to follow. The tasks in this unit will teach you how to write and translate a menu; you can also get a lot of review on the basic rules of grammar, in particular the relative clauses.
In "Having Some Fun", you'll read a short and funny story that will relax you.
