Unit Six: SHOPPING
Do you like shopping? Shopping plays a very important role in people's lives, and it is the favorite pastime of many people, especially women. Therefore, sellers and manufacturers place a variety of shopping ads in newspapers and magazines and on the radio and television to promote sales. You will learn how to shop talk in this unit.
In "Face to Face", after finishing all the samples, dialogues and other tasks, you will have learned how to speak in English when you go shopping.
In "Being All Ears", you will practice listening and comprehension of dialogues and passages about shopping. You will learn vocabulary and phrases useful in expressing yourself in English about this subject.
In "Maintaining a Sharp Eye", you will read two passages "Tangsancai ！ An Ideal Tourist Souvenir" and "Ordering a Gift Online". Learn what Tangsancai is and its long history and ideas about shopping online. Read them carefully and you will acquire a lot of useful information.
In "Trying Your Hand", follow the samples and tasks to learn and practice how to write an operating instruction and specification for a product. You can also get good practice in the basic rules of grammar, this time on adverbial clauses in the Sentence Writing Part.
In "Having Some Fun", you will read a short passage about shopping. Read it and think about whether you have met these kinds of people in your life.
