Unit Eight: FAREWELL
  Do you know how to see somebody off at the station or airport and how to say goodbye to people in English? Do you know how to write a proper letter of farewell? Farewell is of great importance in people's social life and a letter of farewell in particular, can express your thanks to somebody for the hospitality and kindness you've received from him or her. In this unit you'll learn something useful about the sadness and joys of farewells.

  In "Face to Face", following the samples, dialogues and all the tasks, you will learn many English expressions dealing with farewell, such as how to see people off and how to say goodbye in different situations. Please try your best to remember and practice the lessons in this section. You will find them quite useful for everyday life.

  In "Being All Ears", you will practice the listening and comprehension of two dialogues and a passage related to farewell between friends and that of a captain to his passengers. When you practice this part you should pay special attention to what, who, which, how, where, when, etc. There is much to learn from all the tasks designed for you in this section.

  In "Maintaining a Sharp Eye", you will read two passages "The Most Unforgettable Character I've Met" and "A Farewell Speech". They are of quite different styles and thus give you different feelings as you read through them. When you complete all the tasks, you will have a better understanding of farewells, as well as some ideas as to how to deliver a formal farewell speech.

  In "Trying Your Hand", practice how to write farewell letters and translate them through the different samples and tasks given in the text. Emphasis, Ellipsis and Inversion are the grammar focus in this unit, and you'll learn much in this section.

  In "Having some fun", there is a story that will make you reflect and think a lot. Have some fun, get a cup of tea, and relax.
